GST Reforms in India

The Indian government's recent GST reforms, announced on September 3, 2025, implement a new two-tier tax system with rates of 5% and 18%. This change is expected to benefit the common man, potentially increasing disposable income by approximately ₹1,275 per month for middle-class earners.

Why This Matters

Tax reforms impact everyday finances of citizens and can lead to significant public discourse on economic wellbeing.

Public Sentiment Summary

Public sentiment towards the recent GST reforms is predominantly negative, with widespread skepticism about the actual benefits and accusations of government exploitation. Many individuals express a feeling of betrayal, perceiving the reforms as a superficial response to years of high taxation and inflation on essential goods.

Looted 10 yrs with gst and now saying reform and promoting as achievement.

For 8 years they are eating public money and now suddenly they are reducing as if they are doing us a favour.

It feels like making an injury and then giving first aid.

GST cut results in loss of Rs 48000 cars but govt stopped issuing refunds on income tax.

Where were you sir when the first gst was announced?

Diwali ka tofa

8 साल क्यूँ लग गए इसको कम करने में?

सरकार का ध्यान क्यों नहीं जा रहा कि पैकेट का वज़न कम होता जा रहा है और दाम बढ़ते जा रहें हैं?

Good reforms but calling it a Diwali gift is stupid. You don’t get to charge stupid tax rates, lower it, and then take credit for it.

This is so absurd, this is a correction for which BJP should accept that they messed up and leached off common man for years.

Please focus on making India livable - reducing corruption, potholed roads, creating better cities which are not choked, garbage infested, high AQI cancerous air.
